**Page in progress, Stand by for all you ever want to know to keep your car bolted together**

Hardware is rarely right when it comes to the DIY project.  In this guide you will learn all you want to know about hardware and more.  Hardware technology has come a long ways since our vehicles were designed and there is a reason you don't see hardware like that on new cars.

I have pulled together a lot of information learned from my own failures, Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE) training on hardware and the bolted joint, and a lot of research and development that I have done in my career as a Mechanical, Manufacturing and Reliability Engineer.

Bolts

Nuts

What Grade Should I Use?

How Tight is Tight?

How do I keep the bolts from loosening?

Loctite is not permanent and will not keep you from working on your car.  Breaking down is the consequence of no Loctite.

But I have lock washers....No you don't, Split lock washers do not work.  Nordlock washers do.

Does it really matter what I use to tighten a bolt?
